At the same time, Larnaca is one of the oldest settlements. The old harbor filled with mud as a result of earthquakes and the city moved to today’s place. The ruins of the old city were completely destroyed. However, there are still some artefacts and they are exhibited in the Archaeology Museum.

Hala Sultan Tekke or Mosque of Umm Haram is in Larnaca. It is located near the Larnaca Salt Lake. The Mosque is a rare example of Islamic architecture in South Cyprus. Muslims had come to the Island in the period of Muaviye.

 

The aunt of the prophet Hz. Mohammad, Hz. Umm Haram was one of the people who came to the island. Unfortunately, she died here.

 

This Mosque was built on where she died. It is called the third or fourth most important holy place for Muslims in some sources. Unfortunately, the mosque is neglected today. Also, other Turkish towns and mosques are neglected too. Because the Turkish left South Cyprus.

 

St. Lazarus Church is from 9. Century. St. Lazarus is mentioned in the New Testament and The Wrath of John. It is believed that he was resurrected by Jesus.

 

The church used as a roman catholic between the 13th and 16th. centuries and a mosque in the earlier Ottoman’s occupy in Cyprus. After 18 years, it was sold back to Orthodox again and it used as both Catholic and Orthodox church during the next two hundred years. Today, it is an orthodox belong to the Greek Orthodox church.

 

 

Larnaca Salt Lake is the second biggest lake after Limassol Salt Lake in Cyprus Island. Water accumulates in the lake during the winter months and draws during the summer months. Therefore, salt moulds show up.

 

The salt of this lake is an important part of Cyprus’ export. Flamingos visit this lake when their reproductive period. At the same time, the lake is on the migration path of a lot of bird species.

 

In addition to historical places, Larnaca has several good beaches and most of them have the blue flag. The most popular beach is Foinikoudes Beach in Larnaca. There are palm trees on the beach and the sands have a restful color.

 

There are a pier and fishing harbor on the and of the beach. The beach has everything whatever you need as toilets, shower, sunbeds, umbrellas, etc. Also, there are beautiful fish and underwater life. So, diving is an option too.

 

Mckenzie Beach, Kastella Beach, Yanathes Beach, and Faros Beach are other amazing and beautiful beaches in Larnaca. Kapparis beach is a bit further than these beaches but it is an amazing bay too and 50 minutes away from Larnaca by Larnaca Airport transfers. Kapparis is a small town near Protaras.

 

 

Limassol is the second largest city in Cyprus. It is an important harbor city like Larnaca. Limassol is famous with its sandy beaches and historical places as Larnaca and also there are various festivals during all year.

 

There is a village, name is Pervolia. It was a resting place for wealthy people as Kings in the ancient times. It is still a very restful place for everybody. It is located between Larnaca and Limassol. It is only 15 minutes away from the Larnaca Airport.
